Chief Dennen Serves on Blue Ribbon Task Force
On June 29th as part of his ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued Executive Order S-12 -09 (EO) to reinforce California's vigilance in protecting lives and property from wildfire. The EO directs the Blue Ribbon Task Force to ensure that recommendations made by the Governor's Blue Ribbon Fire Commission, established after California's catastrophic 2003 wildfire siege, continue to be implemented.

New Fire Station Dedicated in Phelan
San Bernardino County firefighters serving the communities of Phelan, Pinon Hills, Wrightwood and El Mirage celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 10 at a ceremony on June 30th where First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt praised them for their service and resourcefulness, and welcomed them to their new facility.

Pallet Yard Catches Fire
On June 4th at 12:51 a.m., firefighters responded to a pallet fire at Sancor Woodworks on Valley Blvd. in Fontana.
The fire had quickly spread to an adjacent trucking company
business and destroyed a pick-up truck, a mobile office
trailer, and damaged another trailer. When firefighters
arrived on scene, they were able to keep the fire from
damaging any other portion of this business.

Quest Rally Rolls Through San Bernardino County
On June 2, 2009, San Bernardino County Fire personnel were part of a caravan of engines participating in the annual Quest Rally fundraiser for The Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors. The caravan made stops at Victorville Fire Station 311 and Station 2 in Devore, where the San Bernardino County Firefighters Association donated over $5,000 to this great cause. Throughout the year, the Firefighters Association held fundraisers donating all proceeds to the

Pool Safety – Are You Prepared?
Drowning usually occurs quickly and silently. Childhood drowning and near-drowning happen in seconds, often because a child is left unattended or there is a brief lapse in supervision. The majority of drowning and near-drowning occur in residential swimming pools and in open water sites. However, children can drown in as little as 1 inch of water and are therefore at risk of drowning in wading pools, bathtubs, buckets, toilets, spas and hot tubs. Devices (such as bathtub seats or water wings) can not be relied upon to keep them afloat and alive.
