Bicycle Safety
  • More than 260,000 children admitted to hospitals each year with bicycle related injuries suffer head trauma.
  • Through age 12, most injury producing crashes are the fault of the bicycle rider.
  • 70% of fatal head injuries could have been survived with helmet use, and are therefore preventable.
Buckle Up
  • 75% of traffic injuries and fatalities could have been prevented with the proper use of seat belts or approved child safety seats
  • 80% of car crash deaths to children under 4 years of age could be prevented with the use of car seats.
  • SEAT BELTS: They are the LAW!
Emergency Vehicle Right-of-Way
  • Failing to yield the right-of-way to emergency vehicles results in delayed response and a higher number of accidents.
Vehicle Fires
  • In 1988 there were 36,112 automobile fires in the state of California.
  • In addition, there were 525 motorhome fires.
  • Due to vehicle fires, the total number of civilian injuries in 1988 were 263, the total number of civilian deaths were 67.
  • In 1988, vehicle fires accounted for 28% of all fires within the state.
