Fireworks
  • In 1990, firewood related injuries reported to hospital emergency rooms were estimated at 12,500 - an increase of 28%.
  • In 1988, local fire departments were called to 51,600 fires started by fireworks.
  • The largest share of firework injuries are caused by class 'C' fireworks, the kind that are legal in most states.
First Aid and CPR
  • Perform CPR only if breathing and pulse have stopped, and only if you are properly trained.
  • During an emergency, minutes - even seconds - can mean the difference between life and death.
Juvenile Fire Setters
  • Children playing with fire is the leading cause of death in residential fires for preschool children nationwide.
  • Each year more than 28,000 residential fires are caused by children playing with fire.
  • Property damage is estimated at more than 150 million dollars.
  • 37% of preschool fatalities occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Curiosity is the most common reason children play with fire.
  • 40% of all those arrested for arson are juveniles.
