Station 49 protects the community of Fawnskin, located on the northwest shores of Big Bear Lake.  Daily staffing includes a full-time Captain, Limited Term FF/Paramedic, and during fire season - one additional Limited Term firefighter. There is also a paid call firefighter program here which can respond additional apparatus as needed. To fulfill the County's all-risk responsibility to the local area, Fire and Rescue vehicles located here include an ICS Type 1 Structure Engine, ICS Type 3 Brush Engine with four-wheel drive,  Squad unit with specialized equipment such as the "Jaws of Life", Zodiac Boat, Paramedic Ambulance, and Water Tender to provide additional water for fires in rural areas.  The on duty crew will respond the most appropriate apparatus and have the Paid Call company staff additional units if needed.  In addition to the local community, Station 49 regularly assists it's neighboring departments in Big Bear City and Big Bear Lake.  They also provide immediate assistance to the U.S. Forest Service.
