Firefighters Respond to Structure Fire with Explosions
September 19 - At about 8:40 p.m., the San Bernardino County Fire Department received a 9-1-1 report of a structure fire at 3220 S. Sage in Yucca Valley.
Fire crews arrived to find several backyard storage containers and a vehicle on fire with multiple explosions occurring. The exploding material was determined to be acetylene gas used with cutting torches. This gas is extremely flammable and dangerous, causing an additional hazard for firefighters.
The main residence on the property was immediately threatened by the flames and was saved from damage as fire crews quickly began extinguishing the fire. There were no injuries or causalities reported during the incident. The fire engulfed approximately six outside storage sheds, one vehicle, and personal belongings of the resident, with a loss estimated at $70,300.
It took thirteen firefighters approximately 40 minutes to contain the blaze. Investigators from the San Bernardino County Fire Department are investigating the cause.
