Woman of Distinction Honored From County Fire
California 63rd District As¬sem¬blyman Mike Morrell continued Senator Bill Emmerson’s
seven-year tradition of honoring Women of Distinction on May 20 at the Doubletree
Hotel in Ontario. Penni Overstreet-Murphy, Fire Prevention Specialist for San Bernardino
County Fire was one of the 63 honored. Women from 11 different cities (Fontana,
Grand Terrace, Highland, Loma Linda, Moreno Valley, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands,
Riverside, San Bernardino, Upland, and Yucaipa) were honored for the day and presented
with various certificates from: Assemblyman Mike Morrell, Senator Negrete McLeod,
Senator Dutton, the San Bernardino City Council, and the San Bernardino County Board
of Supervisors. Penni has worked for San Bernardino County Fire for 20 years within
the Community Safety section of the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Penni has a Bachelors and Masters in Criminal Justice and a Master in Public Administration
from California State University San Bernardino. During Penni’s tenure with County
Fire she has received her EMT-1, Levels III, II, and I from the San Bernardino County
Sheriff’s Department, Basic/Advanced PIO from the National Fire Academy, Certificate
in Grant Development/Management, Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, State
Fire Marshal Certificates in Public Education, Fire Marshal, Fire Investigation,
and Instructor throughout the various levels.
Penni has been a member/officer in numerous local and state committees, organizations,
and collaboratives over the years. In 2003 Penni was President of the Southern California
Fire Prevention Officers Association and is the current Chair of the California
Fire Prevention Institute (annual training conference). As time has permitted Penni
has been a Board member of the San Bernardino County Court Appointed Special Advocate
and the Inland Empire Burn Institute. Penni has also been recognized by: Strathmore’s
Who’s Who, Cambridge Who’s Who, America’s Registry, Distinguished Professionals
Online, Continental Broadcasting Network, and Continental Who’s Who of Executives
and Professionals, along with the Mary Erickson-Rattan Award from the California
Fire Prevention Officers for Outstanding Service.
