April 2 - Firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire in Old Town Victorville at about 7:45 a.m. at the corner of 6th and "D" Street. Upon their arrival, the south side of the building was fully engulfed in flames. The 3rd alarm blaze quickly spread through the common attic, eventually causing a partial roof collapse.
The strip mall was the home to Remember When Antiques and Boutiques, with several antique shops contained within the building. The building was originally built in 1917 by Southwestern Portland Cement to prove there was another usage for poured cement; with its first occupant being 1st National Bank.
Through quick actions of Firefighters, they were able to keep the embers from spreading to the adjacent Route 66 Museum. Firefighters were also successful in keeping the fire from spreading to the south to a separate antique shop, separated only by a narrow alley. It took approximately 60 firefighters about two hours to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. San Bernardino County Fire Investigators and the Sheriff's Bomb & Arson detail are conducting the investigation. At this time the fire does not appear to be arson related. Damage estimates are expected to be high due to the value of the antiques.
