Paid-Call
Fire Captain Doris Van Horn was honored by the
Board of Supervisors and the San Bernardino
County Commission on the Status of Women at the
10th Annual Herstory Luncheon on March 11, 2009.
First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt chose
Doris for this distinguished award because of
her dedication and service to her community of
Trona.
Doris has devoted herself to serving the
community over the past sixteen years and has a
reputation for getting things done. She applied
for and obtained a grant for the community that
provided for the dumping of hazardous materials;
she helped create a program that allows citizens
to complete community service through Trona
Cares; and she sits on the Trona Municipal
Advisor Council and local cemetery committee.
Doris has worked as an Emergency Medical
Technician, serving the County Service Area 82
Fire District since January 1993. Doris has also
served as the Coordinator of the Paid-Call
Firefighter Program for Station 127 in Trona and
a teacher for the Fire Science Regional
Occupation Program at Trona High School. In
addition, Doris organized several successful
community fundraisers benefiting various causes
in the Trona area.
