Home
goes up in flames, firefighters save adjacent
home. San Bernardino County Firefighters
responded to a 2nd alarm structure fire on
October 9th at 11:39 a.m at 1098 Hwy. 2 in
Wrightwood. Upon their arrival, the 2500 square
foot, two-story, single-family dwelling was
fully involved, along with two boats and a small
shed.
The sole occupant of the home at the time of the
fire, a 33-year-old male, was able to escape the
fire however received 2nd degree burns to his
face, leg and foot. Paramedics on scene treated
the subject and he was subsequently air lifted
to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora.
His injuries are not believed to be life
threatening.
Embers from the home blew over an adjacent wood
fence into a pile of debris, starting a spot
fire in a neighbor’s backyard. Embers also fell
onto the front porch of the same residence,
starting a small fire. Residents at that home
were able to extinguish the porch fire prior to
firefighter arrival. Firefighters were able to
quickly put out the debris fire in the back
yard. There were no injuries at this location.
Pine trees along the side of the home and yard
quickly ignited, however with firefighters quick
response and actions, they were able to save an
adjacent home.
Approximately 40 firefighters from San
Bernardino County Fire, CalFire and the U.S.
Forest Service were able to bring the fire under
control in less than two hours. The fire is
believed to have started at the front of the
house, however the cause remains under
investigation. The home is a complete loss.
County Firefighters emphasize the importance of
defensible space. Defensible space saves lives
and gives firefighters a chance at saving your
home in the event of a fire.
