NOAA’s National Weather Service recognized San Bernardino County at a recent Board of Supervisors meeting for earning its StormReady distinction. Southern California’s San Bernardino County is the largest county by area in the continental United States and the largest county to become StormReady thus far.
To earn the StormReady designation, the Fire Department’s Office of Emergency Services in conjunction with the Department of Public Works completed several steps to better prepare their residents for severe weather. StormReady requires implementation of a rigorous set of severe weather warning criteria and action plans to ensure public safety.
To recognize this important designation, StormReady signs will be placed in communities around San Bernardino County.
