Truck Plunges into Two-Story Home
September 14 - Three people were injured when a small pickup truck veered off northbound I-15 and crashed into a residence located at the corner of Tamarack Dr. and Mariposa Rd. in the City of Victorville at about 1:45 a.m. The vehicle broke through the retaining chain link fence along the freeway, crossing Mariposa Road. The vehicle then continued across Tamarack Dr., plowing through a wooden fence and striking a parked vehicle before crashing through a bedroom and into the living room of a two-story home, where an elderly woman and her adult son were sleeping.
San Bernardino County Firefighters quickly arrived on scene along with members of the department's Technical Rescue team. Firefighters conducted a search and rescue operation, finding the remaining occupants of the home safely upstairs.
Both residents received moderate to severe injuries. The female was airlifted by Mercy Air to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton and her son to Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda by Upland Fire Department. Both patients were alert and communicating with firefighters at the scene. Firefighters had to extricate the male adult driver from the truck. The driver received minor injuries and was transported by American Medical Response to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Members of the technical rescue team were able to shore up the damaged home to prevent any structural collapse.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
